Job Description Summary

Intervention Learning Specialists provide 1 on 1 guidance to help students strengthen various academic, time management, and organizational skills.

This position specifically supports the mission of the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by assisting in institutional compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.

 

Job Description

Essential Duties:

  • Assess individual student learning needs
  • Help students develop appropriate compensatory learning skills in the areas of study strategies, organization, time management, reading and writing skills, note taking, test taking, etc.
  • Provide consistent and systematic structure for the implementation of these skills
  • Coordinate services with other on-campus academic support providers as needed and in accordance to student need
  • Maintain an electronic summary of student progress
  • Communicate effectively with SAASS staff regarding student status and progress
  • Participate in bi-monthly staff meetings

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting
  • At least one year of experience applying this effective learning strategies in an educational setting; experience working with diverse populations.

 

Experience gained during internships and/or graduate assistantships may be counted (at half-time) towards these requirements.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of effective learning strategies

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree
  • At least one year of experience working with students in higher education
  • Possession of a teaching certificate and/or at least one year of experience providing one-on-one academic support
  • Professional tutoring or teaching experience is a plus
  • Certification and experience in special education is also a plus
